London Landlords Offer Free Rent to Skilled Tenants

Despite the shortage of available rooms to let in the capital, some landlords are willing to forgo rental income if a tenant can offer something in return. In case you are wondering, there really isn’t anything dodgy about this story. According to the London Evening Standard, there are an increasing number of landlords offering free rent in exchange for language lessons, help with childcare or other useful services.

Rent in Exchange for a Room

This trend mostly applies to landlords who rent rooms in their own homes, but there is no reason why you can’t strike a deal with a would-be tenant if they have a skill. In fact a leading property website in the capital is carrying all kinds of advertisements, including a landlord seeking help with a boat building project and another person asking for assistance in setting up a new online business.

Be Flexible

Landlords would do well to think outside the square here. If you’re already paying for lessons in something or are paying someone to help you with a project, why not advertise for a tenant who can help you with these things in return for discounted rent? Do make sure you put your agreement in writing, however, before a tenant moves in so that both parties know what is expected of them.

Landlords: would you be willing to offer free rent in exchange for services? If so, let is know in the comments.
